LIFE UPDATE: I MOVED TO CHARLESTON

Last Friday (May 19th), I set out to Charleston, SC to find a job. I found one. And... I've officially moved here. Well, maybe unofficially because I only brought minimal belongings in case I wasn't able to find a job, and, I'm living in an extra bedroom a friend and his girlfriend have in an apartment they recently moved to. Not only did I want to share this super exciting news with you, but it's so nice to have a post to look back on and remember this step in my life. If you've been keeping up with my posts, you'll know that I've been struggling to find a new job in a new city. It's definitely difficult, as nearly every employer wants to interview you in person before hiring you... or have you spend money to get to the city you want to move to, interview you in person, all to tell you they don't see you as a good fit. I was so tired of hearing that line! But thanks to my long lost friend from middle school who now works at my gym back in my hometown, I was pointed to a restaurant with supposedly good management and good tips (being that it's summer in a tourist city). (Thanks Christine!) Now to be straight forward, the restaurant is much bigger and busier than any restaurant I've ever worked in, and I was quite overwhelmed on my first few days. Truthfully, I still am a bit. But I'm so happy to have made the jump into a new city and a new job!

Of course there's some things that I'm going to miss about my tiny, never-heard-of town, but I knew that if I wanted to make decent money and live in a good city and have a better life, I had to make the leap. I will miss the minimal traffic, my gym (I swear it's the absolute best and the staff is so friendly), the cheap gas, and the country side. What I'm so excited to take advantage of in Charleston is both the beautiful landscape downtown near Rainbow Row and calming waves and beautiful sunsets at the beach. I'm also excited to not have to drive a long distance to get anywhere. Just as a side note, my house back home was a good 7 miles one way from anything you might need, such as groceries, the gym, gas, etc. Charleston is a tourist city for a reason, and I'm here to confirm that it's so beautiful and offers some of the best food. As I try to stick to a plant-based diet, the city offers so many fresh fruits and veg, and there's acai bowls and grain bowls everywhere I turn! It's such a lovely city, and I've always had a thing for it.

My bedroom is quite small, but so is my one back home, so it's really not too different. I'm currently debating whether I want to bring my desk back with me, as it's not so big... so many decisions! This Memorial Day weekend, I'm heading home to get a lot more stuff as I officially have a job! I don't have too much space for it now, but Sarah and I are planning to get our own apartment together so soon! We're hoping to move in by the end of July at the latest, and truthfully, that day could not come sooner. I'm excited to start a new chapter officially living with her for the first time as well as buy our own homeware and home decor items to make our place feel cozy, yet modern and simple. I can't wait to make our place feel like home and decorate it to our taste. We take pride in home decor, so we hope to make our place stand out without spending too much. Once Sarah officially graduates (in a couple minutes!!) and we save up a comfortable amount of money by working this summer, we should be moving in together! But for now, I have started a new beginning in Charleston with a new job and I'm so thankful.

Charleston is such a large city to explore, as it offers all sorts of places in Mt. Pleasant, downtown, Folly Beach, James Island, etc. Even though I've visited the area so many times, I'm considering where I would like to explore next! If you have any place you want me to check out and update you with a blog post, please let me know in the comments. I would love to venture into a new area, take some artsy photos, and create a new blog post! And if you have any suggestions or recommendations as a local or as a long-time visitor to Charleston, please let me know those too.
