MY WEEKEND SO FAR

What I've been up to this weekend so far...

I tend to forget that weekdays don't always have to entail waking up early to workout, going to work, then coming straight home. This Thursday, Sarah and I spiced up our Thursday afternoon by taking a journey through time, where we learned about the meticulous attention and diligent work the French put into up keeping their vineyards, thanks to a wine tasting offered by Edmund's Oast Exchange. We were taken on a metaphorical tour of Mathieu Deiss's advanced way of curating wine - keeping it organic and minimally induced with sulfur dioxide. The first wine we sipped was dry Reisling, which was phenomenal considering the low sugar content and clean finish. The following wines were quite different than any I'd ever tasted before, many with sharp tartness and strong bites, although all of them were so unique they made you appreciate the French aging process.

It only feels right to follow wine with pizza, if you can't have wine with pizza, right? That's exactly what we did! Have you heard about the new kid on the block? The one that lives in a rustic borough downtown and makes wood-fired pizza, warm olives with orange + fennel, and channels a modern vibe with a gold embellishments? That's Renzo, my friend. Renzo caters to all types of diets, and lacks none of the taste or variety in its dishes. The warm olives were unlike any olives I've ever tasted. Is it just me, or are warmed olives a new thing? Either way, I never want my olives any other way. The vegan pizza we ordered was no less spectacular and came adorned with charred kale, abundant sliced cloves of garlic, nutritional yeast for a cheesy flavor, mounted perfectly on a thin crust with the perfect amount of sauce. The flavors lit my mouth up, literally.

Thursday was filled with the perfect balance of food and drink, while Friday encompassed a go-getter vibe. Well, first thing's first, I interviewed at Charleston Home + Design Magazine for an editor position that I'm crossing all my fingers and toes (and everything else) will see a positive invitation by the end of next week. I don't want to jinx anything, but the chief Editor, Erin Forbes, was so lovely to speak with. Although the interview was mentally challenging at points, I felt so comfortable talking to Erin, as we even delved into her recent trip to Bali and stories the magazine should cover for the October-December issue (!) I have never wanted to work for a specific editorial company so badly, and the welcoming, creative vibe I got from Charleston Home and Design just made me want to contribute all my energy to working there even more so.

The rest of the afternoon encompassed trivial things at home, such as editing my website, making another purchase from & Other Stories, and straightening the apartment. We debated between taking a trip to Kiawah Island to listen to Music on the Green or going to a Charleston RiverDogs baseball game. We chose the later, simply because the convivial day we had before left us yearning for a sporty night. They played the Rome Braves, an affiliate to the Atlanta Braves, and lost 0-1, although both teams played commendably. It's difficult to explain how a RiverDogs game can be so fun, but something about the atmosphere just makes it so enticing.

Today has included an every exhausting grocery trip to Whole Foods. Trust me, it doesn't sound tiring, but I've been knackered ever since I got home, and have yet to be able to do anything else. Hopefully we'll get into something exciting again this evening, and I'll gladly update you on that!

How has your weekend been so far? I hope it's been great!
